AMP Insights conducted a basin-wide analysis of the Rio Grande/Río Bravo to assess the value of water in the economy. This was accomplished through an in-depth policy analysis, as well as a time-series analysis of demographic, land use, water use and economic changes in this water scarce and urbanizing basin. The delineation of nine ‘economic catchments’ provided insight to the unique demographic, agriculture and economic shifts in each of the catchments. Case studies were used to show the array of strategies employed in different parts of the basin in response to distinctive water management challenges.
